A Toast To Adventure, Switzerland

This is a little bit of a higgedy piggedy post as what I'm about to share with you all is our travelling day, so of course not many photos were taken. Especially when it takes a plane and two trains to get to Zermatt, i.e virtually an entire day. Nonetheless, travelling is always fun and I'm possibly one of the few people in this world who actually enjoys the airport experience.

My family and I have been lucky enough to travel Club Class to Zermatt for the past few years now, and this year followed suit. It's just something we all love and makes the holiday that bit better. We dived into the comfy chairs in the Club lounge, devoured the treats on offer in the buffet and fluttered our fingers across glossy magazines.

Later, my sister Jess and I popped down to Duty Free to splurge on beauty goodies. I naughtily purchased the Jo Malone perfume in Blackberry & Bay (my rather indulgent signature scent), Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette and the MAC Studio Fix Concealer.

Before we knew it we were soaring above the cotton-ball clouds and sipping on sky-high bubbly. Well, wine.

A toast to adventure!

Arrival in Zermatt! We explored the town, dashing in and out of familiar shops and some surprising new ones, before heading to our favourite local café for coffee and cake. It was forecasted to be thunder storms this day due to a build up of hot weather, but we were blissfully surprised to be greeted with an oasis of cobalt blue sky.

Checking in to our hotel, for possibly the eighteenth time, is just like walking in to a second home. I've grown up with this hotel; and we return year after year simply for the fact that it is perfect. We're always welcomed with warm, friendly staff who always tell my sister and I how big we've grown (don't all adults!), and everything from the food to the décor is beautiful. The best part? It's located in our favourite town. Zermatt is pretty indescribable to those who haven't been - but I can imagine they visualise it littered with cows, chocolate and cheese! And while these may take up a small (but hey, very good) part of this little town situated beneath the Toblerone mountain, the Matterhorn, it is so much more.

In the bustling town, where you might bump in to a celebrity or two such as Tom Cruise or Pippa Middleton, or in fact some of the richest people in the world, you'll find glamourous shops, quaint cafés serving up a cosy brew, luxury hotels and even an abundance of pharmacies eager to sell you your next beauty must-have. This seems like a pretty industrialised and commercialised view of Zermatt, but it's heart is rich with history, folk traditions and adventurous activities from paragliding to helicopter rides.

A few hours later after sticking our noses in books around the pool and catching both a few sun rays and winks, we headed to dinner. Dressing up of an evening is always a holiday highlight, so of course I dusted off my beloved white crochet skirt and teamed it with a grey/ green military shirt and tan sandals. The look is effortlessly chic, sophisticated and fresh. I also threw leopard print into the mix in the form of a clutch for added texture and play.

We snoozed away the night, preparing ourselves for an adventurous Swiss day ahead.

The next photo diary will be airing Thursday so stay tuned! Be prepared to see some spectacular mountainous views!
